Lucknow: In a cryptic social media post, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has taken a swipe at the Uttar Pradesh BJP, hinting at internal conflicts within the party. Amid rumours of a rift between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy, Yadav’s message on X suggested a “monsoon offer” to form the government.
Yadav’s post, which read, “Monsoon offer: Bring a hundred, form the government,” comes against the backdrop of growing tensions between the state government and the party organization. This tension follows the BJP’s disappointing performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the party secured only 33 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Addressing reporters at the SP headquarters on Wednesday, Yadav criticized the BJP’s internal strife, stating, “In this fight for power, it is the people of Uttar Pradesh who are suffering.” He further remarked on X that the BJP was “sinking into a quagmire of internal conflicts,” which has negatively impacted governance and administration in the state.
The speculation of a rift intensified after Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed differing views on the BJP’s electoral setback in Uttar Pradesh. At a recent BJP working committee meeting in Lucknow, Maurya emphasized the importance of the party organization over the government, stating, “The organization is bigger than the government, the pain of the workers is my pain. No one is bigger than the organization, the workers are the pride.”
In contrast, Adityanath attributed the party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections to “overconfidence.” Several BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh, including those who lost their seats, have openly criticized Adityanath’s leadership style, attributing it to the party’s reduced number of seats.
Amid these growing tensions, Deputy Chief Minister Maurya held an hour-long meeting with BJP national president JP Nadda in New Delhi. Additionally, BJP’s Uttar Pradesh chief Bhupendra Chaudhry had a separate meeting with Nadda. According to sources, these discussions focused on preparing the party for the upcoming bypolls to 10 Assembly seats in the state.
The internal conflicts within the BJP in Uttar Pradesh highlight the challenges the party faces as it seeks to regain its footing ahead of future elections.
