New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stepped up the BJP’s attack on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of lavish expenditures during his tenure as Delhi’s Chief Minister. Shah alleged that Kejriwal’s focus was on personal luxury rather than public welfare.
Speaking at a public event, Shah recounted, “Children visiting my home remarked that Arvind Kejriwal’s major contribution was building a grand ‘Sheeshmahal’ for himself. When he joined politics, he claimed he wouldn’t use government resources. Today, he lives in a glass palace built with taxpayers’ money. Kejriwal ji, the people of Delhi deserve answers.”
Reiterating PM Modi’s Allegations
Shah’s comments echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier criticism of the AAP government. At a recent event inaugurating development projects in Delhi, Modi labeled AAP as a “disaster” (aapda) for the capital over the past decade, contrasting it with BJP’s focus on delivering homes and infrastructure.
The BJP has consistently accused Kejriwal of overspending on his official residence. An inventory released last year by the Public Works Department (PWD) highlighted significant costs incurred for luxury upgrades to the Chief Minister’s bungalow.
Kejriwal Responds
Arvind Kejriwal dismissed the allegations as baseless and a diversion from BJP’s lack of accomplishments. He criticized PM Modi and Shah for resorting to personal attacks ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.
“In ten years, BJP has achieved little for Delhi. They promised permanent housing for all by 2022 but delivered only 4,700 homes in five years. Compare that to AAP’s achievements: 22,000 classrooms, three universities, and numerous other projects,” Kejriwal asserted.
Delhi Elections: BJP’s First List Out
With elections approaching, BJP has announced its candidates for key constituencies:
•New Delhi: Parvesh Verma will contest against Kejriwal.
•Kalkaji: Ramesh Bidhuri has been fielded against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.
The Delhi Assembly elections are shaping up to be a heated contest between BJP and AAP, with Congress struggling to regain its former prominence in the capital.
