Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and DGP Dilbag Singh were also in attendance. This is Shah’s first visit to the former state after it was divided and Article 370 was repealed on August 5, 2019.
Meanwhile, for the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah, a multi-layer security plan has been put in place, and the Valley has been transformed into a fortress. His visit comes in the wake of a recent rash of civilian fatalities in the union area.
Several traffic restrictions have been implemented in Srinagar as a result of his arrival, with individuals riding two-wheelers subjected to extensive security checks. Barricades have been erected on valley roads, particularly in the city, and persons have been frisked and checked more frequently.
Following the arrival of the Home Minister, security forces have been deployed in greater numbers across the valley, particularly in Srinagar. According to official sources, 50 additional paramilitary companies are being integrated into the valley.
The BJP office in Jawahar Nagar in the city, where Shah is expected to pay a visit, has been surrounded by a strong security cordon. Similarly, roads leading to the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) have been closed for three days starting Saturday since the Union Home Minister will be attending an event there. Bunkers staffed by the paramilitary CRPF have appeared in various locations of the city and the UT.
