Dumka: Close on the heels of the death of a 16-17 years old schoolgirl Ankita Kumari who was set on fire by Shahrukh Hussain, Dumka DSP Noor Mustafa Ansari is in the eye of storm for allegedly favouring the accused in the investigation.

Local residents, including Hindu right-wing activists started raising eyebrows over the DSP in question right after Ankita succumbed to her burn injuries at RIMS in Ranchi, for mentioning her age to be an adult as against her matriculation certificate details showing her date of birth falling in 2003.

As such the FIR lodged with the Town police station in connection with the incident could not be registered under the POCSO act so as to ensure stringent punishment for him by the trial court.

Further the FIR was lodged only against the main accused Shahrukh whereas Ankita in her subsequent statement had also named one Naeem Khan alias Chhotu Khan to be an accomplice of the crime who however was arrested and  his name been included  as a co-accused later on thereby suggesting towards foul play on the DSP part.

This is, however, not an isolated instance of the highhandedness of Noor Mustafa Ansari who apart from patronising the local mining mafias allegedly misused his authority to provide favour to the accused on communal lines.

Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi in his press conference here today also referred to few such instances of Mustafa’s indulgence in protecting accused of heinous crimes, including those pertaining to the atrocities committed against SC/ST communities.

“Noor Mustafa Ansari who was the investigating officer of a case pertaining to the atrocities committed by one Julfikar Bhutto and others against Ruplal Mohli of Bediya village under Mufassil police station, intentionally delayed the submission of the charge sheet against the accused before the court beyond the stipulated 90 days period thereby felicitating his bailing out,” he alleged.

Last but not the least, Dumka SP Ambar Lakda too had recommended to the Dumka DIG Sudarshan Mandal for a suitable action against the ‘erring’ DSP in May this year for being lenient towards the proceedings of expelling a group of mining mafias operating in the district from the district who allegedly mined forests land by using illegal explosive materials.

Babulal alleged that Noor Mustafa Ansari enjoyed patronage of the ruling dispensation particularly Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his younger brother and Dumka MLA Basant Soren who together have their share in the pie of ill gotten money generated by him by misusing his official capacity.
