Jamshedpur, June 16: The A-1 category Tatanagar railway station would soon get three more new escalators (moving stairs) and a foot overbridge.

The new foot overbridge would come up at the Kharagpur end of the railway station.

Officials at the Tatanagar railway station said that Johnson Private Limited, a private agency has been assigned the job of installation of three new escalators at the Tatanagar railway station.

“One escalator will come up on platform number 1 at the existing foot overbridge. The other two new escalators will be installed at the new foot overbridge, foundation work of which has been already laid, ” said R K Singh, senior section engineer (works) at Tatanagar railway station.

According to the official, the private agency has already submitted the general arrangement drawing, which specifies the dimension and other necessary measurements for the installation of new escalators.

“Once the general arrangement drawing is approved it will take six months for the installation of the escalators,”  he said adding that the new escalator and foot over bridge is an attempt to add more passenger amenities at the Tatanagar railway station which witnesses a daily footfall of around 50,000 passengers.

Tatanagar railway station, the busiest under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway already has two escalators which are in operation at platform number 1 and platform number 3.

Apart from this Tatanagar railway station also has an elevator (or lift) at platform number 1.
