New Delhi, April 11: Apple Inc announced on Monday that it has begun manufacturing the iPhone 13 in India, as the firm seeks to minimise its reliance on its Chinese supply chain, according to Reuters.
According to a source, the phone is made at a local plant of Apple’s Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn (2354.TW), which is located in the town of Sriperumbudur in the state of Tamil Nadu’s southern region.
Apple has moved some iPhone production from China to other nations, including India, the world’s second-largest smartphone market, where it also plans to produce iPad tablets.
As contract manufacturers providing American companies aim to diversify manufacturing away from China, India and other nations such as Mexico and Vietnam are becoming increasingly relevant.
Following the commencement of Apple’s manufacturing operations in India with the iPhone SE in 2017, the iPhone 13 is the company’s fourth model to be made in the country.
