Ara: Ara MP Sudama Prasad was reportedly placed under house arrest in Moradabad by Uttar Pradesh police on Sunday while attempting to reach violence-hit Sambhal. The CPI (ML) leader, heading a fact-finding team that included central committee members and local party leaders, was on his way to meet bereaved families and assess the situation.
In a video released by CPI (ML)’s Bhojpur unit, Prasad criticized the police’s actions, saying, “I, along with other CPI (ML) functionaries, was heading to Sambhal to offer condolences and ascertain facts behind the violence. The police stopped us and, instead of letting us proceed or formally arresting us, placed us under house arrest.”
He condemned the move as a violation of democratic rights, stating, “Preventing an MP from meeting families affected by violence is undemocratic. Instead of tackling real issues like unemployment, price rise, and farmers’ plight, this government is fueling communal discord.”
Prasad also questioned the resurgence of religious controversies, emphasizing, “The 1991 law on maintaining the status quo on religious places should be respected. The focus must shift to essential issues like livelihood.”
Meanwhile, the Revolutionary Youth Association (RYA) staged a protest in Ara against the Sambhal violence. The march traversed key streets and concluded with a public meeting at the Ara bus stand.
RYA Bhojpur district president Niranjan Keshari accused the government of using communal issues as a distraction. “The NDA government is reigniting temple-mosque disputes to divert attention from critical matters like the Gautam Adani issue. Those responsible for the loss of lives in Sambhal must be held accountable,” he said.
