New Delhi, Dec 14: Arjun Tendulkar blasted a century for Goa on his Ranji Trophy debut on Wednesday. Arjun, who relocated his base from Mumbai to Goa in order to increase his possibilities, earned his first-ever first-class century against Rajasthan on Day 2. Rajasthan chose to put Goa in to bat at home after winning the toss, and the hosts took a few early hits.
In order to restart the innings, Suyash Prabhudesai and Snehal Kauthankar (59) shared a century stand. However, a few more dismissals brought Arjun to the crease, and he and Prabhudesai utterly destroyed the Rajasthan attack.
Arjun and Suyash both scored century on Day 2 of the match, giving Goa a commanding lead.
When Sachin Tendulkar played against Gujarat as a teenager in 1988, he too hit a century on his Ranji Trophy debut.
He went on to establish himself as the best batsman of his generation in international cricket, holding the record for most runs scored in both Test and ODI matches. He is also the first cricketer to have hit 100 centuries in international play.
At the Goa Cricket Association field in Porvorim, Arjun, who entered the batting order at number seven, was dismissed for 120. In his 207-ball innings, the left-hander smashed 16 fours and two sixes.
Arjun was selected for the India under-19 team and later spent time with the Mumbai Indians of the Indian Premier League, though he was never used as a substitute.
This season, he relocated from Mumbai to Goa.
In cricket-crazy India, his father, who retired in 2013 after amassing 100 centuries, continues to be revered as a deity.
