Vatican City, Sept 24: Pope Francis has held the arms industry primarily responsible for the martyrdom of Ukrainian people in Russia’s war. He said that even if weapons are banned now, their suffering will not end.

This statement of Pope Francis is directly in relation to Poland’s announcement in which it said that it is no longer sending arms to Ukraine. During his return from Marseille in France, Francis was asked a question regarding the war. Francis admitted that he was disappointed that the Vatican’s diplomatic initiatives had not yielded any significant results.

He also said that the arms industry is also behind the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He explained in detail the contradiction due to which the people of Ukraine are being martyred. He said that initially many countries gave weapons to Ukraine but now they are taking them back.

Francis has on several occasions described the arms industry as a merchant of death. However, he has also emphasized on the rights of countries to defend themselves. He said he is now seeing that some countries are pulling back and not giving arms. Pope Francis said this would start a process where certainly the Ukrainian people would be martyred and that is not good.

Their reference was towards Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s announcement that Poland is no longer sending weapons to Ukraine. During this time, François also talked about his two-day trip to Marseille, where he appealed for European countries to accept more immigrants into their countries.”
