Mumbai, Sept 7: Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray has been denied permission to meet his close aide and party MP Sanjay Raut, currently being held at Arthur Road Prison in connection with money laundering.
Notably, Thackeray sought permission from the Arthur Road Prison Authority to meet Raut in the warden’s room, but the Prison Service refused. The prison authorities announced that Thackeray would have to get permission from the court to see Raut and that the meeting could not take place in the warden’s room at all.
“They will have to meet in the same way as ordinary prisoners meet on that side of the lattice and for that too, the permission of the court is required,” said the jail authorities.
The prison official said he had not received any written requests. A Shiv Sena leader close to Uddhav Thackeray phoned the prison authorities and said that the former minister wanted to meet Raut for just 15 minutes, but prison services refused.
Notably, on Monday, a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) extended the judicial detention of congressman Shiv Sena for 14 days until September 19 in connection with a land fraud case Patra Chawl. Raut was arrested by the Directorate General of Law Enforcement (ED) on August 1 for alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl on the outskirts of Goregaon.
