New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has categorically ruled out any alliance between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, or other INDIA bloc partners, for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. “There will be no alliance in Delhi,” he declared during a press conference today.
Alliance Talks Dismissed
The announcement comes amidst a history of unsuccessful collaborations. In the Lok Sabha Elections, AAP and Congress had fought together, but the BJP secured all seats. Similarly, alliance talks for the Haryana Assembly elections collapsed, resulting in another BJP victory.
Attack at Rally Sparks Outcry
Kejriwal also addressed an unsettling attack during a rally in Malviya Nagar, where a man splashed liquid on him, allegedly in an attempt to harm him. “What was my fault?” he asked, targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah over Delhi’s law and order.
“A man threw spirit on me. Thankfully, alert volunteers prevented a tragedy,” said Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, alleging that the attacker was linked to the BJP. The accused, Ashok Jha, a Delhi Transport Corporation bus marshal, reportedly acted out of frustration over unpaid wages. However, police clarified the liquid was water, dismissing AAP’s claims.
The BJP termed the incident a “publicity stunt,” with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva questioning its authenticity.
MLA Arrest Sparks Allegations
The controversy deepened as AAP MLA Naresh Balyan was arrested in an extortion case. Kejriwal defended him, claiming he was a “victim of gangsters” who had targeted him for ransom.
Balyan, MLA from Uttam Nagar, was detained after alleged audio clips with gangster Kapil Sangwan discussing extortion money surfaced. Police are continuing their investigation.
