Asian Games: Indian men’s hockey team beats Uzbekistan 16-0

Hangzhou, Sept 24: In the 2023 Asian Games, Indian athletes are making their mark one after another. Following the achievements in shooting and lightweight double sculls, the Indian men’s hockey team also put on a splendid performance. Thanks to a hat-trick by Lalit Upadhyay, Varun Kumar, and Mandip Singh, India defeated Uzbekistan 16-0. This was a formidable match for India, which includes Tokyo Olympics silver medalists and the world’s third-ranked team. India will now face Singapore on September 26.

India secured this victory on the back of hat-tricks from Lalit Upadhyay (7th, 24th, 37th, and 53rd minute), Mandip Singh (18th, 27th, and 28th minute), and Varun Kumar (12th, 36th, 50th, and 52nd minute). Additionally, goals were scored by Abhishek (17th), Sukhjeet Singh (42nd), Shamsher Singh (43rd), Amit Rohidas (38th), and Sanjay (57th). The Indian team demonstrated their dominance right from the start, with the first goal coming within the seventh minute. India was awarded 14 penalty corners throughout the 60-minute match, and they managed to convert on five of them.
