Hangzhou, Sep 24: Babu Lal Yadav, an Indian rower who on Sunday won a bronze medal at the Asian Games, said he got chills when he saw the Indian flag raised on the platform in Hangzhou, China.
Today, Lekh Ram and Babu Lal Yadav won the third and second rowing medals for India, respectively, to finish on the podium.
Babu Lal, who only began rowing two years ago, experienced all the different feelings again when he stood on the podium to get his medal.
“I had goosebumps watching the Tricolour go up slowly on the podium,” Babu Lal said.
He gave the credit for their accomplishment to the Indian army and others.
“We are very happy to have won this medal for the country. The credit for our success goes to the Indian army, our coaches, family members, and the people of our country,” Babu Lal added.
After earning the medal, Lekh Ram thanked his coaches as well.
“I have no words to express my happiness. Our coaches put us through long hours of practice. The idea was to bring all that we had practised into the main event. I would like to attribute our success to the Indian army, our coaches, and family members,” Leh Ram stated.
They were not the only team to win a medal for India in rowing. Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, who finished just behind China in the men’s lightweight double sculls final, won India’s second silver medal in the Asian Games earlier in the day as well.
