New Delhi, May 29: Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express, which will connect Guwahati and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, was officially flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
The newly electrified parts of Guwahati-Chaparmukh and New Bongaigaon-Dudhnoi-Mendipather will also be dedicated to the country by the prime minister. He will also formally unveil the brand-new DEMU/MEMU (train workshop) shed at Lumding.
It is the first of its kind premium semi-high speed service that runs between New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal and Guwahati in Assam. It is also well-equipped and fully air-conditioned.
This new service will drastically shorten the current shortest journey time by the fastest train, covering the 411 kilometres between Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri in 5 hours and 30 minutes.
The Vande Bharat Express train service will run six days a week, introducing people in the northeast to the comfort and speed of modern rail travel with airline-like travel experiences.
IT professionals, businessmen, students, and tourists will all benefit from this train because it will be the fastest in this sector.
The Vande Bharat Express carries out an ambitious initiative by Indian Railways aimed at improving the quality and speed of train travel throughout the nation.
