Ranchi, Sept 25: A sit-in protest has been announced again by the 2500 assistant policemen from September 27 after their demands were not fulfilled.
Assistant policemen had started an agitation the previous year from Sept 12 to 23 at Morabadi Maidan after which minister Mithilesh Thakur had assured them to consider their demand by forming a five-member committee. But so far nothing has happened in that direction.
During the tenure of the then Raghubar government, 2500 young men and women from 12 Naxal-affected districts of the state were hired on a three-year contract to serve in the home district. There was an agitation against the process of being fired at the end of the contract period in 2020. After which the contract was extended for one year. Meanwhile, the contract has been extended till 2022. But till now there has been no increase in the honorarium.
2350 assistant policemen of 12 districts had agitated at Morabadi Maidan in Ranchi from September 12, 2020, demanding confirmation. The agitation, which lasted for 12 days, ended after the minister’s assurance. After hours of talks with Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Mithilesh Thakur, the assistant police personnel decided to end the strike. And they were given an extension of 2 years.
