Ranchi: Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has once again raised serious questions over the functioning of the Crime Investigation Department (CID), urging the Chief Minister to take concrete action instead of making empty statements.
Call for Transparency in CID Operations
In a post on X, Marandi demanded that all instances of extortion and corruption linked to CID activities over the past year be subjected to a public investigation to reveal the truth. “We have repeatedly warned you about the deep-rooted corruption within your administration. We have also informed you multiple times about what your CID department has been up to,” he wrote.
Cough Syrup Smuggling Case Under Scrutiny
Marandi highlighted the case from last year when Gujarat Police tipped off authorities, leading to the seizure of a large stock of banned cough syrup in Barwaddah, Dhanbad. Despite knowing its use as an intoxicant, it was being openly sold. CID took over the case, but even after 14 months, no arrests have been made. “Have we become so greedy that we won’t even spare children? This deadly drug is being sold to our youth and children. The government must speak up because our children’s future is at stake,” he said.
Allegations of Delayed Investigations and Corruption
The opposition leader further alleged that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has failed to file charge sheets within the stipulated time, while CID’s investigation methods remain questionable. He accused the agency of shielding suspects in paper leak scandals, protecting drug traffickers, and being involved in land scams.
According to Marandi, the credibility of CID has become so doubtful that not only the public but even the judiciary has started questioning its actions.
