Ranchi: Sunil Tiwari, former political advisor to Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, surrendered before the Ranchi Civil Court today in a child labour case and sought bail. Additional Judge SN Tiwari’s court granted him bail. Tiwari faces allegations of forcibly extracting work from a domestic servant. An FIR was registered against him at Argora police station in 2021 under the SC/ST Act.
Background of the Case
Police had filed a chargesheet against Sunil Tiwari in the child labour case, following which the court issued a summons. He had earlier filed an anticipatory bail petition on April 22 to avoid arrest, with arguments from both sides concluded on May 18 and the order reserved. However, before the order could be pronounced on May 20, Tiwari withdrew the anticipatory bail petition, and the court accepted the withdrawal. He subsequently surrendered and was granted regular bail today.
Sexual Assault Allegation Also Pending
Tiwari also faces a separate allegation of sexual assault, in connection with which he was arrested from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.
