Ranchi, Nov 16: Baggage scanner at the Ranchi railway station has turned into a showpiece. No one is available at the gate to check the luggage of the passengers.
In absence of the baggage scanning, the railway station has become vulnerable to different kinds of security threats.
RPF Inspector S K Jha at the railway station said that the company responsible for repair of the scanner has been informed and the machine will be operational soon.
“The company is located in Kolkata and it has to resolve the issue within 20 days or else they will have to pay the penalty. In the time being, we have placed RPF personnel with HMD to check the luggage of the passengers in the peak hours,” Jha said.
Senior Divisional Traffic Manager Aditya Kumar Choudhary about the issue said that he will look into the matter and the problem will be resolved shortly.
Baggage scanner is an electronic machine used for security purposes. It helps in scanning the materials inside the luggage which helps to know if it contains any prohibited items. It is widely used in airports, hotels, metro stations, multiplexes, railway stations, cinema theatres etc all across the world.
