Ranchi, Sept.13: State executive president of Congress and Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey has called upon tribal tea workers of Assam to remind the BJP of its election promise of giving them proper tribal status besides increasing their wage to Rs 351 and giving valid documents for a house.
Tirkey was on a two-day visit to Assam to participate in the National Tribal Meet as a special guest. The programme was organised by Tribal Coordination Manch on September 12 and 13.
Explaining the importance of the demand, Tirkey said it will pave the path of reservation of 45 seats for tribal people in the state as out of 3.5 crore population, tribals working in tea gardens and known as tea tribes are 30 percent. He was of the opinion that once the 45 seats are reserved for the tribals they will be in a position to play a decisive role in the formation of the government.
“The BJP had made a promise to come in power realising its importance but after the party came into power it forgot the same for vested interests,” Tirkey told the tea garden tribes of the state.
