New Delhi, June 29: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is anticipated to discuss the repatriation of Rohingyas, during the upcoming trip to India, slated for September of this year.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, the foreign minister of Bangladesh, Masud Bin Momen, stated that PM Hasina, who will visit India at PM Narendra Modi’s invitation, will bring up issues related to the illegal influx of Rohingyas into Bangladesh from Myanmar, such as the rise in radicalization and drug trafficking as well as human trafficking of women and children.
“To us, the only feasible solution is the repatriation of Rohingyas to their Rakhine state. I am sure that when PM Sheikh Hasina will meet PM Narendra Modi then she will also raise the issue that how India can help us in this repatriation effort,” Bangladesh foreign secretary Momen said.
Notably, more than a million Rohingya refugees from Myanmar have crossed into Bangladesh since August 25, 2017. The current Rohingya refugee crisis is one of the greatest and swiftest population transfers in recent memory.
