Dhanbad, July 27: The Teachers Association of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKUTA) Dhanbad has expressed grave concern over the inaction of university authorities in getting UGC development grants.
At an executive committee meeting of BBMKUTA held at the Academic Block of the university, teachers’ leaders pointed out that IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad got over Rs 600 crores fund from the UGC for development projects but, at the same time, BBMKU has failed to bring even 10% of it in the name of development.
BBMKUTA president Dr RK Tiwary presided over the executive meeting held after more than two years on Wednesday. General secretary Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary, secretary Dr Krishna Murari, spokesperson Dr Jitendra Aryan, BBMKU Post Graduate Teachers Association (PGTA) president Dr Bhagwan Pathak, treasurer Dr Rajesh Kumar, Dr Leelawati Kumari, Dr Kalpna Prasad were also present.
Besides them, BBMKUTA (Dr BN Singh faction) former general secretary and ex-general secretary of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribag Dr BN Singh, Dr Indrajit Kumar, Dr Sanjay Singh Prof DK Choubey, Dr MK Singh were also present.
Interestingly, PGTA general secretary Dr DK Singh, who has opened a front against the university over the alleged confinement of university teachers, was absent at this crucial meeting. Sources said that Dr DK Singh was engaged in organizing an academic programme at IIT ISM when the meeting was in progress at the Academic Block of the university. That is why he did not attend.
BBMKUTA spokesperson Dr Jitendra Aryan said that at the meeting discussions were held on only three points i.e. ratification of the merger of Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary and Dr BN Singh factions’ teachers bodies, holding executive body meeting next month and conducting election of BBMKUTA in the third week of September.
But a senior teacher who attended the meeting said that participants (teachers) expressed grave concern at the meeting over the anti-teacher attitude of the university. They alleged that rather than making a congenial academic environment in the university, the Vice-Chancellor has adopted a repressive attitude to harass teachers by confining or transferring them who do not fall in his line or protest illegal orders.
“All participant teachers’ leaders unanimously decided to protest the illegal order of the university with unity,” said a senior teacher who wished not to be quoted.
