Dhanbad, Oct 6: The electoral list for the Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad Teachers Association election will be announced on Saturday.

Giving this information, the coordinator of the BBMKU Teachers Association (BBMKUTA) election committee Dr MK Singh (postgraduate HoD English) said that he has received a provisional eligible voters list from all 10 constituent colleges of the university and he has also sent them back for necessary corrections, additions of any missed names, or addressing objections concerning any name on the list.

“All the constituent colleges have been asked to send the correction list by today evening so that the final electoral list of the election could be announced by 5 pm on Saturday,” said election committee coordinator Dr Singh.

Sources said that a total of 173 permanent teachers have been identified as eligible voters in the Dhanbad-Bokaro-based 10 constituent colleges of the university in the Teachers Association election.

The faculty members of the three newly set up Degree Colleges have not been included in the voters’ list but their principals Dr Sarita Srivastava (Degree College Bermo, Bokaro), Dr RP Singh (principal Degree College Digwadih)  and Dr Indrajit  Kumar (principal Degree College Tundi) are figured in the electoral list.

Election Committee officials said Dr Sarita Srivastava has gone from SSLNT Women’s College  Dhanbad to Bermo as principal-in-charge; Dr RP Singh has gone to Digwadih from the post-graduate department of chemistry and Dr. Indrajit Kumar has gone to Tundi for post-graduate English department. “Since all the three are permanent teachers, they are eligible voters,” the official said.

In a query, Dr KM Singh said that lab technicians (demonstrators) are not allowed to cast votes in the election. “They are not considered teaching class members, so they are kept out of voting”, he said.  However, the election committee coordinator said that the demonstrators promoted as teachers by the Commission are eligible voters and have been included in the voting list.

Election Committee chief Dr SKL Das, when contacted on Friday, said that after the announcement of the electoral list, the process of election would be started. “The committee would hold a meeting soon to finalize the election date and other processes,” he said.

After the creation of the university in 2017, this is the second election of the Teachers Association.  The first election was held in January 2018. Due to Covid and other unavoidable reasons the second election could not be held in 2021-22.
