Dhanbad, Sept 9: The new vice-chancellor of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Sukhdeo Bhoi has washed the sins allegedly committed by his predecessors by appointing three senior teachers of the university as deans of different faculties.

As per the notification of the university, Prof Rita Sharma (1996 batch), the university head of the department of Psychology has been made the dean of humanities. She has replaced Dr Seema Sinha whose term was completed one and half years ago.

New Dean of Humanities Prof Rita Sharma

Prof SK Chopra (1981 batch), head of the department of commerce of RSP College Jharia has been appointed the dean of commerce in place of BN Sinha, head of the department of commerce of RSP College.

Dr Binod Kumar Singh, principal of Law College Bokaro has been made the dean of law.

Besides them, Dr Ajit Kumar and Dr Anil Kumar Singh have been made university heads of commerce and geography departments respectively.

Notably, the seniority row of teachers is a perennial problem of BBMKU. In the initial stage of the university, two successive vice-chancellors aggravated the mess by promoting junior teachers over seniors while appointing the dean of different faculty and dean of students welfare (DSW).

“Former VC Anjani Srivastava broke university’s rules”

According to a senior professor of the BBMKU, former vice-chancellor Anjani Kumar Srivastava broke all rules of the university by appointing his wife Dr Ranjana Srivastava as university head of the department of economics over the senior teachers and later she was made the dean of social science.

When Anjani Kumar Srivastava became vice-chancellor, his wife Dr Ranjana Srivastava came on deputation at BBMKU from Ranchi University. As per the university regulation, a teacher on deputation can’t be made either the head of the department or the dean of faculty. Only a permanent teacher of the university can be made the head of the department

But when Dr (Prof) SKL Das retired on August 1, 2019, the then VC made his wife the university head of economics, superseding the two most senior teachers Prof Pushpa Kumari and Prof AK Majhi of the department. Moreover, he appointed his wife as dean of social science too by making Dr Devjani Biswas (the then dean) as the new DSW.

Interestingly when VC Anjani Kumar Srivastava got two months extension in June 2021, he also extended the deputation of his wife in BBMKU. After completion of his tenure, his wife also returned to Ranchi University as a simple teacher. A senior professor of the university said that since Srivastava was the vice-chancellor, no one dared to raise a voice against it.

Acting VC DK Singh also violated seniority norms

Before Anjani Srivastava, the acting vice-chancellor DK Singh (director of BIT Sindri) had also violated the seniority norms by appointing a proctor, DSW and dean of different faculty. He appointed Dr BK Sinha and Dr SK  Sharma, the principals of PK Roy Memorial College and BSK College Maithon respectively as deans of social science and science.

As per norms, the principal can’t be made dean. It is alleged that DK Singh appointed the principals as dean to stop two senior teachers of the university Prof SKL Das (1978 batch) and Prof B Kumar (1979 batch).
