Dhanbad, Sept. 8: Two brothers died on Wednesday and six villagers including five women got injured after a swarm of bees stung them in Baghjat village of Gawan block, around 120 km away from Giridih district headquarters, a police official said.

The deceased were identified as Uttam Mallah(12) and Gautam Mallah (10), sons of Baghjat village resident Narayan Mallah. The injured persons are Malti Devi, Malwa Devi, Soni Kumari, Karishma Kumari and Arjun Mallah. All injured villagers are admitted to Gawan community health centre(CHC). Doctors said that they would be released soon.

Officer in-charge of Gawan police station Dipu Das said that both the brothers had gone to the nearby forest for feeding goats in the late afternoon of Tuesday. All of a sudden a swarm of bees attacked them and beat up badly. The bees also injured the villagers, who were collecting dead woods in the forest, as they rushed to rescue both the brothers.

“Villagers provided local treatment to both the brothers at the house, who were yelling in pain the whole night. When their condition deteriorated in the morning of Wednesday family members took them away to Gawan CHC where doctors declared both the brothers dead,” said officer-in-charge Das.

Having seen feared by the death of both the brothers from bee- sting, injured villagers also reached CHC and got treatment. One of the injured women told media persons that generally forest bees do not sting until someone disturbs their honeycomb. Both the brothers might have thrown stones on the honeycomb after which they became irritated and attacked them.
