Varanasi: The Bengaluru police, investigating the alleged suicide of techie Atul Subhash, have intensified their probe by raiding the home of his in-laws in Jaunpur and collecting documents from the family court. The 34-year-old AI executive ended his life earlier this week, leaving behind a 24-page suicide note and an 81-minute video alleging harassment by his wife, Nikita, and her family.
Singhania Family Under Investigation
A four-member police team, led by a sub-inspector, reached Jaunpur late Thursday evening. After seeking the assistance of local police, they raided the Singhania family’s residence, which was found locked. The police also discovered that their phones were switched off.
On Friday morning, the Bengaluru police returned to the house and pasted a notice directing the Singhanias to appear before the investigating officer. The notice comes amid efforts to locate the family members, who have been accused of abetting Atul’s suicide.
Family Court Documents Collected
The police team visited the family court in Jaunpur, where Atul’s wife, Nikita, had filed a maintenance case. According to Atul’s lawyer, Dinesh Mishra, the court had ordered Atul, who earned ₹84,000 per month, to pay ₹40,000 as monthly maintenance for his son. Police collected documents related to the case as part of their investigation.
Marriage and Allegations of Harassment
Atul married Nikita on April 26, 2019, after meeting her through a matrimonial site. However, their relationship reportedly soured, leading to legal battles over divorce and child custody.
In his suicide note and video, Atul alleged harassment by Nikita and her family, accusing them of demanding ₹3 crore to drop police cases against him. He also alleged bias by the family court judge.
Atul’s brother, Bikas, filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police, leading to the registration of a case against Nikita, her mother Nisha, brother Anurag, and uncle Sushil Singhania.
Fleeing the Scene
Anticipating police action, Nikita’s mother and brother reportedly fled their home on Wednesday night. Efforts are ongoing to trace their whereabouts.
Next Steps in the Investigation
The Bengaluru police continue to piece together evidence while coordinating with local authorities in Jaunpur. The case has brought to light allegations of harassment, financial demands, and systemic challenges in resolving family disputes.
