Ranchi, Nov 28: Jharkhand Police today attempted to arrest BJP leader Bramhanand Netam, who is contesting the byelection for the Bhanupratappur assembly seat in Chhattisgarh. Netam is facing an allegation of raping a minor.

According to the information, the Jharkhand Police raided the house of Naresh Soni in the Manjhapara ward of Kanker to arrest Netam.

Netam is on the line of fire of Congress, which has demanded cancellation of his nomination for having a rape charge. It is alleged that he raped a 15-year-old girl and forced her into prostitution in the Jamshedpur district of Jharkhand in 2019.

The Bhanupratappur by-election has less than a week left to go, and if any action is taken against the BJP candidate in such a circumstance, then BJP may suffer a significant setback.
