Jodhpur, Oct 17: Former Rajasthan Cabinet Minister and a key accused in the 2011 Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case passes away in Jodhpur on Sunday.
He breathed his last around 7.44 am at his residence in Jodhpur. According to family sources, his last journey will go from his residence in Jodhpur to his native village Chadi. He was suffering from Cancer. He was earlier treated at Jodhpur AIIMS. A year ago, Maderna was allowed cancer treatment from Jaipur by the High Court. It is being told that Maderna had cancer of the fourth stage.
Many political leaders, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla have expressed condolences over his demise.
“ My deepest condolences on the passing away of former minister and senior congress leader Shri Mashipal Maderna ji. I am praying to God to give strenght to the bereaved family members to bear this loss and give peace to ther departed soul”, tweeted CM Ashok Gehlot.
The CBI had filed its first charge sheet in the Bhanwari Devi case in December 2011. The trial in the case is underway in the lower court.
Notably, Maderna has served as the water Resource Minister in the previous Ashok Gehlot government. Maderna was earlier a cabinet minister in the Gehlot government. After this, in the famous Bhanwari Devi of Rajasthan he was arrested in the kidnapping and murder case and was removed from the post of minister after his arrest. Maderna was in jail since 2011 after this case. On August 24, Maderna was granted bail by the High Court and came out on bail after 9 years.
