Ranchi, Sept. 22: Bhojpuri Ekta Manch knocked the door of Raj Bhawan requesting the first citizen of the state to take cognisance in the matter of derogatory remarks of Chief Minister Hemant Soren against those speaking Hindi, Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, and Angika in the state.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren during an interview to a private channel on September 13 had said Bhojpuri and Magahi are languages of Bihar and their abusive words were used for those who participated in agitation for Jharkhand separate state. He had also said that abusive words of those languages were used at the time of molestation of women during the Jharkhand agitation.
Referring to that interview, the organisation said such humiliating remarks by a person holding a constitutional position hurt the sentiment of 55 to 60 percent people of the state who use the said languages.
A delegation of the organisation said the act of a person holding the constitutional post is against the spirit of the oath administered to him before he holds the constitutional position.
Drawing attention towards disputes arising from language, the delegation handed a four-point charter of demands to governor Ramesh Bais saying it was required to be fulfilled in the interest of justice.
The demand includes fixing cut-off close to the cut-off date fixed by Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand while formulating a local policy and compulsory education of tribal and regional languages besides 16 second state languages in schools and universities.
Other demands included due recognition to Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi and Angika at the time of recruitment for government jobs in the state.
The six-member delegation of Manch included its president Kailash Yadav, Abid Ali, Dharmendra Giri, Upendra Narayan Singh, Suresh Rai and Bimla Singh Devi.
