Dhanbad, Sept 22: Pakur police on Wednesday morning, rescued 13 cows including two calves which were being transported to West Bengal from Jharkhand in a truck. They have arrested two cattle smugglers named Mojim Ansari and Salim Sheikh from Pir Pahari village of Maheshpur police station area.

Officer in-charge of Maheshpur police station Sunil Kumar Ravi informed that the seized cows were taken to Hayat Nagar of West Bengal from Hiranpur of Pakur. Further interrogation from the  arrested smugglers has revealed the name of the kingpin as Md Hyder, a resident of Hayat Nagar, West Bengal who smuggles cows from different districts of Jharkhand and sends them to Bangladesh.

“A police team was deployed on the main road near Pir Pahari village after getting a tip-off that cattle would be smuggled to Bengal by a truck from Maheshpur area of the district. When stopped by police, the smugglers tried to speed up the vehicle and run away.  However, police chased and caught the truck”, said the officer In-charge.
Districts of Santhal Pargana division have turned into the main field for Bengal cattle smugglers. With the support of local people, they collect cattle in the region and smuggle them to Bengal. Last week Pakur police had rescued 15 cows being taken to Bengal from Poraiya Hat of Godda district.

Officials also informed that a strict interrogation from the arrested people is underway. The syndicate of  Bengal cattle smugglers has been busted and police will soon arrest other members involved in it.
