New Delhi, Oct.11: Just before the assembly elections in Uttarakhand, the ruling party, BJP, has suffered a major setback. Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya along with his son, Nainital MLA, Sanjeev Arya joined Congress in New Delhi on Monday.

Yashpal Arya and his son Sanjeev Arya had earlier left Congress and joined BJP before the assembly elections in 2017.

At present, Yashpal was the Social Welfare Minister and Transport Minister in the Uttarakhand government. Both the leaders joined the Congress in the presence of former CM Harish Rawat, State in-charge Devendra Yadav, Congress State Committee State President Ganesh Godiyal, National General Secretary-Organization KC Venugopal, National Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

Notably, Yashpal Arya is MLA from Bajpur. At the same time, his son Sanjeev Arya was elected MLA from Nainital assembly seat last time. After BJP came to a standstill, the party had also made both of them candidates in the assembly elections. The father-son duo had lived up to the expectation of the BJP and had also registered victory. After this, the BJP government made Yashpal Arya a cabinet minister.
