Patna, Dec 8: BJP established an initial lead in the by-election to the Kurhani assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district in Bihar on Thursday, a CEO official said. according to a CEO official.
After the first round of voting, the BJP candidate Kedar Gupta received 4,194 votes, while Manoj Singh Kushwaha of the JD(U) received 2,195.
There are a total of 13 candidates, five of whom are Independents, but Gupta and Kushwaha are widely believed to be the front-runners. They were each a former MLA. Anil Kumar Sahani, a sitting RJD MLA, was disqualified, forcing a by-election.
In the 2020 assembly elections, which the BJP and JD(U) jointly fought, Gupta had fallen short of Sahani by fewer than 700 votes. The JD(U) is currently a member of the Mahagathbandhan, which also includes the RJD, Congress, and Left parties.
In the by-election for Kurhani on Monday, about 58% of eligible voters cast ballots. This is the first time the BJP and the JD(U), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, have faced off since their breakup four months ago.
