Patna, Aug 9: As rumours regarding Nitish Kumar’s split from the BJP reach a fever pitch, the chief minister of Bihar will meet with his party’s MLAs today. If he dumps the BJP, the Congress and RJD have said they are ready for Grand Alliance 2.0.
The Janata Dal United meeting is set to begin at 11 am. It is intended to make a decision about the next steps formally. Kumar has been increasingly irate with the BJP over a number of problems. At the same time, Lalu Yadav’s Patna house is hosting a meeting for RJD MLAs and leaders. All MLAs’ cell phones are kept outside the conference space.
The BJP has indicated it will wait for Kumar’s decision after contacting him twice on Monday. According to sources, Amit Shah, the party’s chief strategist, contacted Kumar and spoke with him over the phone. On Monday, senior party officials met with Kumar.
Both the Congress and Lalu Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal, or RJD, currently led by Tejashwi Yadav, have meetings scheduled for today. If Kumar leaves the BJP, both parties have stated that they are prepared to form an alliance. Hindustan Awam Morcha and CPIML, two smaller parties, have also pledged their unqualified support for Nitish Kumar.
