Patna, July 25: Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) MS Dhillon on Monday denied reports that the suspects in the Phulwari Sharif terror module case had received cryptocurrency payments from Qatar-based organisations.

“There was no truth to reports of involvement of cryptocurrency funding angle in the Bihar terror module case,” Dhillon told news agency ANI.

The Bihar Police recently busted a PFI “terror module” in the Phulwari Sharif district of the state, and three people including a former Jharkhand police officer were detained for their suspected connections to the organisation and their preparations for “anti-India” operations.

According to a police officer quoted in a PTI report, evidence gathered during the investigation showed that one of the accused in the case had received the money in the form of bitcoin from a foreign organisation.

In this context, cryptocurrency trade is significant since different financial structures and central banks have expressed worry over the financial dangers associated with trading virtual currencies, including cryptocurrencies. This type of money has the potential to be utilised for many unsavoury purposes.

Asghar Ali, a teacher at Jamia Maria Niswa Madrasa in Bihar’s Purvi Champaran district, was detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) took over the investigation from the Bihar Police. NIA has also filed a complaint in accordance with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Following the filing of an FIR accusing 26 people, the Bihar Police have so far detained five people in the Phulwari Sharif case. During the Bihar Police’s raids in Phulwari Sharif, numerous questionable documents were found.

One such document, titled “Vision 2047 India,” described how Indian Muslims could fight the Indian State militarily with the help of other Islamic countries like Turkey. The cops also discovered several PFI pamphlets.
