Patna: Bihar is set to get its first nuclear power plant, with preparations fully in place for the facility to come up in Banka district. The plant will be constructed at Bhitiya village in Banka, with two units planned targeting a power generation capacity of 700 MW. The foundation stone is scheduled to be laid in November this year.

Water Supply and Clearances Secured

The plant will require a large volume of water, which the Water Resources Department has arranged from the Badua reservoir, supplying approximately 8 crore cubic metres annually. In case of a shortfall, water will be sourced from the Ganga river, for which a No Objection Certificate has already been issued. All construction-related hurdles have also been cleared.

NTPC to Build, DPR in Six Months

The plant will be constructed by NTPC, which has sent a proposal to the Atomic Energy Corporation for approval. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared within the next six months. Once complete, the plant is expected to give Bihar a distinct identity in energy infrastructure and generate significant employment opportunities for local youth.
