Birsa Munda death anniversary: PM Modi pays tribute

New Delhi, June 9: The nation would never forget Birsa Munda’s dedication and service for the betterment of the tribal community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday as he paid tribute to him on his death anniversary.

According to PM Modi, Birsa Munda gave everything up to fight against foreign rule.

“Lots of respect and salute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda ji on his death anniversary. He sacrificed his everything in the struggle against foreign rule. The grateful nation will always remember his dedication and service to uplift the tribal community”, PM Modi said in a tweet.

भगवान बिरसा मुंडा जी की पुण्यतिथि पर उन्हें कोटि-कोटि नमन। उन्होंने विदेशी हुकूमत के खिलाफ संघर्ष में अपना सर्वस्व न्योछावर कर दिया। आदिवासी समुदाय के उत्थान के लिए उनके समर्पण और सेवाभाव को कृतज्ञ राष्ट्र सदैव याद रखेगा।

Birsa Munda, a legendary freedom fighter and social reformer from the Munda tribe, was born on November 15, 1875, and gave his life on June 9, 1900, in the service of his country.

He led an Indian tribal religious Millenarian movement in the tribal belt of present-day Bihar and Jharkhand during British administration in the late 19th century.
