Ranchi, Sept 8: India has a total of 27 institutes that are of the category of Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTI). Of these, Jharkhand has two including BIT Mesra and NIFFT Hatiya. These universities and educational institutions follow a similar academic and admission system as that of NITs and IITs.
Meanwhile, admissions for all categories except OBC/BC seats are done on the basis of rank in JEE (Main) through JoSAA counseling and CSAB special round. On the other hand, admissions for OBC/BC seats are done through institutional counseling. Candidates must belong to the BC-I / BC-II category of Jharkhand and should have passed their Class 12 examination from Jharkhand.
Here, BIT Mesra has a total of 1100 seats. Of these, 604 are general seats, 110 are EWS seats, 139 seats are for SC, 186 are for ST, 24 seats are for General PwD, 12 seats are for EWS PwD, 12 seats are for SC PwD and 13 seats for ST PwD. Moreover, 510 seats are for the students of Jharkhand under the state quota.
Here, BIT Mesra offers seats to both students of the home state and students from out of state in 15 of its academic programmes varying from Architecture to Food Technology.
Notably, there is no girls’ quota in BIT Mesra. Apart from this, there is no OBC quota under JoSAA counselling. However, BIT Mesra has more than 50 seats for the OBC quota for which the institute has its own separate counselling institute which does counselling on the basis of JEE Main rank.
It is also advised that interested candidates participate in both JoSAA counselling and CSAB counselling.
BIT Mesra also offers a branch change option, however, before selecting a branch, one should be absolutely sure. BIT Mesra also has a 5-year BArch course which has 41 seats and students are admitted on the basis of results of JEE Main Paper 2 under JoSAA counseling. The institute is also set to begin courses for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning on 66 seats.
