Ramgarh, Sept 8: A career counselling session was organised at DAV Public School, Hazaribagh on Thursday. Senior scientists from IARI, ICAR Gauriakarma Hazaribagh were the resource persons for the session.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Vishal Nath Pandey, who is the Principal scientist/OSD IARI, ICAR, Gauriakarma. He along with Dr BN Mondal, Senior scientist (Agricultural Statistics), Dr P.K. Sinha, Scientist (Agricultural Extension) and Principal Ashok Kumar jointly lit the lamp to inaugurate the session.
The Principal in his welcome speech expressed his thanks for the presence of the senior scientists who came to enlighten the students of classes 11th and 12th on various career prospects in the field of agriculture and related areas. He also encouraged the students to opt for agriculture as a profession other than engineering medical and civil services.
Dr P.K Sinha threw light on his journey of becoming an Agricultural Scientist. He said that there are three dimensions in agriculture which are research, education and extension. He also emphasized that there are ample opportunities in agriculture and ICAR is the leading organisation that is working rigorously in the enhancement of agriculture technology and the progress of cultivation and production.
Dr B.N Mondal told everyone about the courses of studies in ICAR, IARI. He told a common entrance test AIEEA is conducted for the selection of students in BSC Agriculture.
Chief Guest Dr Vishal Nath Pandey explained to everyone about the various career opportunities in primary agriculture, secondary agriculture, horticulture etc. He said that Agriculture is the future of a developing nation like India. He quoted the example of the Green Revolution which made India self-reliant in grain production and supply.
The queries of the students were very satisfactorily tackled by the scientists. The programme ended with Shanti Path.
