Dhanbad, Oct 2: The only government-owned engineering college of the state, BIT Sindri, has made a major leap in the field of technical education by getting recognition from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for five departments.
BIT Sindri’S Director, Prof. DK Singh said that the institution has received a mail from the NBA Member Secretary regarding recognition of Birsa Institute of Technology’s (BIT) five postgraduate departments; electrical engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, metallurgical engineering and mechanical engineering.
This recognition has been given on the basis of reports from a three-member NBA team that had visited the institution in August 2021. Before this, the institution had already received NBA recognition for two departments; mining and production.
“NBA recognition would open the gate of job opportunity for the students of BIT Sindri at international level as its curriculum in seven departments has reached at par with the USA and other western countries’ institutions. Now multinational companies would keep students of BIT Sindri in their priority list along with USA, England and other superpowers of technical education,” said Prof DK Singh.
Sources have informed that Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) Indian and America has played a major role in getting NBA’s recognition for all 7 departments. “ This recognition will help students of BIT Sindri to get research opportunities in foreign technical institutions. Besides this, they would also get the opportunity to showcase their talent in case studies and get scholarships,” said a faculty member of BIT Sindri.
Another official said that NBA recognition to five departments would make a strong case for an autonomous campaign of the institution that is on the cards. A high level team of state government has already assessed the proposal for autonomous status to Jharkhand’s lone engineering college, although, teachers and staff of the institution have opposed the autonomous move.
