Kolkata: A political war of words erupted in West Bengal after an attack on TMC MP Mitali Bag in Hooghly on Monday. Both Trinamool Congress and BJP blamed each other, escalating tensions ahead of election results.
TMC Alleges BJP Role
TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee strongly reacted to the incident and warned that those responsible would be identified and held accountable after the results on May 4. He claimed CCTV footage would be examined to trace every attacker.
Banerjee also said the matter was more serious because Mitali Bag is an SC woman leader.
BJP Rejects Charges
BJP’s West Bengal president Samik Bhattacharya denied involvement and called the incident an internal conflict within TMC. He said factionalism began after Mitali Bag was given the Arambagh ticket, dividing party workers into rival camps.
Political Temperature Rises
Abhishek Banerjee further said he would personally take responsibility for the Arambagh area regardless of the election outcome. His sharp remarks have intensified the already heated political atmosphere in the state.
Background of the Incident
Earlier reports said Mitali Bag’s car was attacked in Hooghly, its windows were smashed, and she was later admitted to hospital.
