Ranchi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced a district-wise statewide protest in Jharkhand from May 6 to May 12 over the worsening water and electricity crisis. State BJP president Aditya Sahu accused the government of ignoring public hardships while people struggle for basic services.
Symbolic Demonstrations Planned
As part of the campaign, party workers will stage symbolic protests carrying pots, utensils and other water containers on their heads to highlight the shortage of drinking water. The agitation will be held across different districts on scheduled dates.
District-Wise Schedule Released
Protests will begin on May 6 in Garhwa, Palamu and Latehar. On May 7, demonstrations will be held in Chaibasa, Jamshedpur and Seraikela-Kharsawan. Other districts including Hazaribagh, Dumka, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Ranchi will witness protests in subsequent phases till May 12.
Government Accused of Failure
The BJP claimed nearly 80,000 hand pumps in the state are lying defunct and the promise to repair them within 72 hours has failed. The party also alleged that toll-free complaint systems have not delivered any results.
Questions Raised on Water Schemes
The opposition said the Jal supply scheme has fallen victim to corruption. According to the party, despite spending thousands of crores and receiving central funds, many areas are still without regular water supply.
Warning of Bigger Agitation
The BJP warned that if the government does not resolve the water and electricity crisis soon, the protest movement will be intensified in the coming days.
