Ranchi: Dhruva Dam in Ranchi has become a growing cause of concern after repeated suicide incidents involving young men and women over the past several months. The area is increasingly being seen as a vulnerable and unsafe zone requiring urgent intervention.

Remote Area Raising Safety Concerns
Locals say many people avoid the area at night because it becomes deserted and isolated. Authorities fear the lack of movement and poor monitoring make it easier for distressed individuals to attempt self-harm.

Jurisdiction Issues Affect Patrolling
The dam area falls under the boundaries of multiple police stations, including Nagri and Dhurwa. Due to overlapping jurisdiction, regular PCR patrolling is reportedly not being carried out effectively, creating security gaps.

Recent Cases Reported
In a recent incident, a youth named Aman allegedly jumped into the dam after leaving his scooter and slippers near the edge. His body was later recovered by police and NDRF teams.

Earlier, on March 19, 2026, a BBA student identified as Nimisha Jha from BIT Lalpur Extension reportedly died by suicide at the same location. Police had recovered a suicide note from the scene.

Need for Preventive Measures
The recurring incidents have raised calls for stronger surveillance, fencing, regular patrols, CCTV monitoring and mental health intervention measures to prevent further tragedies.
