Mumbai: BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde has sent a ₹100 crore defamation notice to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Supriya Shrinate. Tawde accused them of making false allegations to malign his reputation and defame the BJP.

Public Apology Demanded

Tawde stated that the Congress leaders must issue a public apology or face legal proceedings. “If they fail to apologize, I will pursue a defamation case in court,” he said. Tawde emphasized the distress caused by the accusations and his commitment to taking action against them.

The Allegations Against Tawde

On November 19, just a day before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Tawde was accused of distributing ₹5 crore in cash to voters at a hotel in Virar, Nalasopara constituency. Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) MLA Kshitij Thakur and his supporters alleged that Tawde was engaging in cash-for-votes activities, leading to a massive uproar at the hotel.

Congress Leaders’ Statements

Following the incident, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Supriya Shrinate, accused Tawde of indulging in corrupt practices. Their statements, shared widely on social media, alleged that the BJP was attempting to bribe voters ahead of the elections.

Tawde’s Response

Tawde refuted the allegations, claiming he has never faced corruption charges in his 40-year political career. “I come from a middle-class family and have lived a simple life in politics. These accusations are baseless and deeply hurtful,” he said.
