Ranchi: The BJP has launched a sharp attack on the Jharkhand government, accusing it of violating Supreme Court directives in the appointment of the Director General of Police (DGP). Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters on Wednesday, BJP state president Babulal Marandi alleged that the Hemant Soren-led governmentignored the 2006 Supreme Court directive, which mandates that the DGP must be appointed through the UPSC panel.
Irregularities in DGP Appointment
• The BJP has alleged procedural lapses in the DGP’s appointment process.
• The selection committee included a retired judge, home secretary, and chief secretary, yet the appointment was made under an unlawful framework, claimed Marandi.
• The party accused the state government of bypassing legal norms in the appointment process.
BJP to Move Court
• BJP has decided to challenge the appointment in court, asserting that the Jharkhand government is misusing the judiciary for political gains.
• The appointment process, they claim, directly defies the Supreme Court’s orders.
• The party has demanded an immediate review of the decision and strict action against those responsible.
