Ranchi, Dec 7: Broadband and TV cable operators in the city came into action for removal of the cables from the street lights after Ranchi Municipal Corporation declared to cut them on Tuesday.
Due to this removal of cable by broadband operators such as Airtel, BSNL and City Cable, a situation of disruption has arrived where the online classes of students were affected.
Several students across the city using broadband connection had to use their mobile hotspot for their online classes. The students using broadband connection of Airtel, BSNL or City Cable had to suffer while the students using the Jio Fiber didn’t face any problem.
An Airtel cable operator, Manoj Vishwas, said that though time was given to them for the removal of cables, the government has not provided an alternative for the same.
“These wires have continued to be like this for more than 10 to 15 years and now they are expecting to find an alternative solution for this,” Vishwas said.
“Due to the removal of these cables, people are facing problems and they are now shifting from Airtel to Jio,” he added.
On the other hand a Jio Fiber cable operator, Ajendra Kumar, said that people using Jio Fiber do not have to worry as the cables are planted according to the government norms and due permission have been taken before the installation.
A campaign to cut the cable was launched by the RMC but at the request of the Jharkhand Cable Operator Association, the campaign was stopped midway. After this, all the telephone and cable companies were given 10 days deadline by the corporation.
The move of the RMC to remove the cables is in pursuance of Section 126 of the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011 where there is a provision about the vesting of property and the municipality had already ordered three notices in the wake of the Jharkhand high court’s mandate.
