New Delhi, June 5: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, slammed Centre for the recent spike in targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir, claiming that no one is willing to listen to Kashmiris since the government is ‘busy promoting films.’
“Kashmir is burning again, the situation there is out of control, and important people of Delhi are busy promoting films. No one is willing to listen to the Kashmiris. The Kashmiri Pandits are forced to protest, what is the government doing?” Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP saying quoted by news agency ANI.
Raut’s remarks come after Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended a special screening of Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. Union ministers, including Piyush Goyal, Anurag Thakur and Ashwini Vaishnaw, were also present during the screening.
Raut has been critical of the central government’s handling of Kashmir’s law and order crisis. Raut questioned assertions that Kashmiri Pandits were returning to the Valley following the acrimonious repeal of Article 370 last month. Raut had requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to “seriously consider this” and urged the Centre to safeguard the safety of individuals who live in J&K.
Notably, several targeted killings of civilians have occurred in the Valley in the last two months, with victims including members of the Kashmiri Pandit community and government employees. Terrorists shot and killed a bank manager named Vijay Kumar outside his workplace in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Rajni Bala, a 36-year-old Hindu woman teacher from Jammu’s Samba area was also killed at a government school in Gopalpora, Kulgam, earlier this week. Terrorists alsp killed two civilians and three off-duty cops in Kashmir last month, including Kashmiri Pandit employee Rahul Bhat.
