Tokyo, Aug 25: The men’s doubles team of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila advanced to the next round of the event, giving the Indian badminton team at the BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Championships a solid start to the day.
The Indian pair, who were competing on court 1, produced an incredible comeback after dropping the opening set to win the match 18-21, 21-15, and 21-16.
They had to really work for their victory because they were up against a tough challenge from the Singaporean team of KH Loh and H Terry the entire time.
The first set was closely contested, as the Singaporean couple took advantage of crucial opportunities to put the Indian pair under strain. With a fantastic show of aggressive shots, they managed to defeat the Indians in the opening set.
The Indian shuttlers, who were riding a winning streak from earlier matches, did not buckle under the pressure and levelled the match with a remarkable display of abilities midway through the second set.
In the decisive set, the duo applied pressure right away, playing with excellent strategy and denying their opponent opportunities to score. The Loh and Terry team appeared to have run out of steam in the decisive set, allowing the Indians to win easily. To end the set and the match, the Indians played wonderfully in the backcourt and displayed skill at the net.
While his companion fell to the ground in delight to celebrate the hard-fought triumph, Dhruv Kapila leaped with glee and punched the air.
The couple has now advanced to the tournament’s quarterfinal round and will look to keep winning to guarantee a podium finish. To advance to the quarterfinals, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, another men’s doubles team, will compete against the Danish team. For a spot in the quarterfinals, Lakshya Sen will compete against Prannoy HS.
