Jamshedpur, Oct 29: Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has on Friday given a call for the boycott of Chinese goods during the festive period of Diwali.

The national trader’s body has given the boycott call so as to dent a loss in the Chinese industrial output.

Revealing about the boycott call, CSIT’s national secretary Suresh Sonthalia said that like last year, this year also the traders’ body has given a call for the boycott of the Chinese goods during this Diwali.

Speaking to media here today, Sonthalia said that during the five-month-long festive season that starts from ‘Rakshabandhan to New Year, Chinese goods worth over Rs two lakhs crores used to be imported by the traders every year.

“Following the CAIT had taken a stand against the sale of Chinese goods, a considerable extent of imports from China could be prevented. But this year we have observed through a survey that there has been a disillusionment among the consumers for the Chinese goods. And thus we hope that during this Diwali, largely Indian goods will be the consumers’ favorite, ” said the CAIT secretary.

Sonthalia pointed out CAIT Research & Trade Development Society, a research arm of the traders’ body had carried out the survey in 20 cities across the country and found in the survey report that no trader has placed an order for the Chinese goods for the ensuing Diwali.

He stated that during Diwali festival alone Chinese goods like FMGC, electronic items, watches, footwear, fashion apparel, gift items worth over Rs 50,000 crores used to be sold.

“After the spell of Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian economy had to suffer immensely. But with the pandemic waning away gradually, the industrial activities that had to bear the brunt of the pandemic have started to taking shape here. So please discard the Chinese goods and ensure that cent per cent Indian goods are consumed during the festival of light, ” said Sonthalia while reiterating his appeal for the boycott of Chinese goods.
