New Delhi, Oct 19: In reaction to Asia Cricket Council Jay Shah’s remarks on Tuesday that it would be possible for Pakistan to host the 2023 Asia Cup somewhere else since India won’t be visiting, the Pakistan Cricket Board responded forcefully on Wednesday.
PCB mentioned that it was ‘surprised and disappointed’ at the comments made by Jay Shah and that such a step could impact Pakistan’s visit in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India in 2023.
“Comments made without any discussion/consultation with ACC Board/PCB (event host) and without any thoughts towards long-term consequences and implications. It can impact Pakistan’s visit to India for ICC World Cup 2023 and future ICC Events in India in 2024-2031 cycle,” said Pakistan Cricket Board in its statement.
Under Rahul Dravid’s guidance, India last visited Pakistan for a bilateral series in 2005–06. Since Pakistan’s 2012–2013 tour of India, which included three T20Is and the same number of ODIs, the two countries have not engaged in a bilateral cricket series. Both have just recently met in international competitions or the Asia Cup.
