Kolkata: The CBI has arrested the alleged shooter in the murder case of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari, from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. The accused, identified as Mannu Singh alias Gyanendra, is the tenth person arrested in connection with the case and is being brought to the CBI office in Kolkata after completing the necessary judicial procedures.

Accused Surrendered in Court Before CBI Could Arrest Him

The SIT formed to investigate the case had received information that Mannu Singh, a resident of Ballia, had played the role of the shooter in the murder. A CBI team reached Ballia on the basis of this intelligence. However, before the CBI could formally arrest him, Mannu Singh surrendered before a court in an older case. The CBI team then completed the required legal formalities and is expected to bring him to Kolkata by tonight.

Murder Took Place on May 6, 2026

Chandranath Rath was murdered on May 6, 2026. The case was initially investigated by Kolkata Police, which arrested three accused, before being handed over to the CBI. The CBI formed an SIT and subsequently arrested six more accused. Mannu Singh is the seventh person arrested by the CBI and the tenth accused overall in the case.
