New Delhi, Dec 16: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) sent notices to two e-commerce companies, Flipkart Internet Private Ltd and Fashnear Technologies Private Ltd (meesho.com), for violations relating to the sale of acid reported on their platforms. CCPA directed them to furnish detailed responses within seven days.
The selling of extremely corrosive chemicals on these e-commerce platforms has come to the attention of the CCPA, India’s consumer protection agency. It has been questioned how easily and unrestrictedly these acids are made available on these e-platforms. According to the report, having harmful acids so easily accessible to consumers and the general public can be risky and unsafe.
Officials from the Consumer Affairs Ministry said on Friday that the CCPA has been instructed to submit a thorough response, along with necessary supporting documents, within 7 days, addressing the concern of such availability of acids on its e-platform in light of a recent unfortunate incident involving an acid attack on a 17-year-old in Delhi in which media reports highlighted that the alleged offenders had purchased the said acid from Flipkart.
